Das hits ton, Mullick misses in drawn Ranji tie

Orissa collected five points by virtue of taking first-innings lead against Railways in their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League Group-B match, which ended in a draw on the last day at DCWS Stadium in Patiala today. Railway settled with three points.

Orissa enjoyed upperhand in the match with Shiv Sundar Das scoring a century, Pravanjan Mullick missing the three-figure mark by eight runs and Debasis Mohanty bagging four wickets. Opting to bat after captain Sanjay Raul won the toss, Orissa compiled a healthy total of 348.

Das scored 110 off 292 balls, hitting 10 boundaries. Mullick faced 235 balls in his 92, which was studded with nine hits to the rope and two over it. In reply, Railways folded up for 295 and conceded a lead of 53 runs. Mohanty was most successful Orissa bowler, capturing four wickets for 54 runs.

With nearly three and half days gone, there was little score for Orissa to try for an outright win. Under the circumstances, Orissa did what seems the best option by batting out the remaining time of the match.

When the game ended as draw, Orissa were 175 for four in their second innings with Pradip Das going strong on 60 (104 balls, 8x4). SS Das passed 2000 runs in Ranji Trophy when reached five in the second innings.
